Reading games? Speed Reading and understanding?
My son is having problems with speed and understanding. He is a very reader slow and this has cost wise degree … ANYYYYYYYYWAYS I wondered if any of you know of homeschoolers than any game of reading software speed reading or the flash memory type of things … I could make him a stronger player .. I am looking for free stuff =) and thank in advance, Sharon I forgot to add that is 13 years old … but I want to try a variety of things with him … to build their confidence in some of =) I simply do not teach reading speed I only use speed reading exercises to take you to break sentences into clusters, etc etc … 
Personally, I tend to think many people focus on speed, rather than understanding. But if you work in reading comprehension, one necessarily its speed increases. (The reader is not stagnation, a new reading, frustration, etc. – all things that tend to worsen if empahsizes too fast. Moreover, the expert reader can pick up on subtle clues in the selection of words that tip you off to where the text goes, allowing more productive "speed" reading.) So I concentrate entirely on promoting understanding. Try-based word puzzles, "I know a word of three letters. Add two and fewer there will be. What is the word I have in mind?" Or this classic: " A man is looking at a portrait. He says, "Brothers and sisters I have none, but that man is the father of my father's son." Who appears in the picture? "Once you start looking, there are hundreds of these gems online, all for free. And to beat them, the reader must slow down and separation lever drafting. Ironically, in doing so, he or she probably will become a faster reader in general. Good luck.
