The mental history of photography began in 1975 with a rich young man who had a firm reading speed and 'knew' that our brains are capable of much more than just speed reading.

That young man was Richard Welsh. Wales had spent 15 years in the insurance industry and had become a great success in what he did. At the ripe age of 34, having become quite wealthy from work, Welsh decided to retire and moved to a remote location to reflect on his future.

Welsh decided to buy a company in the reading speed and it was from here that things really took off. From the field reading speed that the company always Welsh, and spent many years in both research funding and development of speed reading techniques management and the brain. University studies and essays on the course participants to test techniques for Wales and the speed and comprehension of the participants.

The results proved to be incredible, and was at that time that mental picture became a subject in its own right.

The difference between the speed Reading and the mental picture was that the mental picture was a totally different way of seeing learning. Wales believes that all born with the ability of a photographic memory, but as they grew and were taught to read, we have lost that ability and began to rely heavily on what we read instead of what to do.
