How fast can get a train from San Francisco to Los Angeles?
This is assuming that the track is clean and dry all the way, no stops intermediates. Also, I am asking for a period of six coaches, two Amtrak locomotives-type operated in a safe manner, of course. I'm asking this because I read that once California voters approved a high-speed train line being built between the two cities, and I am curious about how of a difference in the time it would if it really is built.
At 79 mph, the run would take 5.94 hours to run the 470 miles that the Coast Starlight and CalTrain run from San Francisco to Union Station in Los Angeles. If California High Speed Rail could face a similar route is proposed speed of 220 mph, which would 2.13 hours. California High Speed route is scheduled for 2.6 hours. So the difference would be approximately 2 hours. Just FYI, the Coast Starlight from San Jose Los Angeles has a long-scheduled trip just under eleven hours! Add an hour to get from San Francisco to San Jose.
